Zolani Care Trust works to create dignity and employment opportunities for people within the township of Zolani, near Ashton, through skills training and social and personal development projects. The founder of Zolani, Paul Heather, describes the formation of the Trust as the “opening of a doorway” which brought together two groups of people from very different backgrounds and allowed them to work towards a common goal.
For Tshozi, a local resident of Zolani, the skills training provided by the Trust has been life-changing. Before he came into contact with the Trust, this father of three was unemployed and struggled to make ends meet. Being employed has given Tshozi a sense of financial security and dignity as he is now able to provide for his family.

Zolani Care Trust’s interaction with GreaterGood SA’s SASIX evaluation team encouraged the organisation to think more strategically about the focus and planning of its initiatives which in turn will contribute to their overall sustainability and capacity to achieve their objectives.
The Trust plans to use the insights gained through this experience to improve their project planning and fundraising applications in future.
"An NPO of volunteers normally sees the problem and with much heart throws itself into its solution without too much forward thinking. Your proposals have encouraged a much more sophisticated attitude to what we do. The people will certainly benefit from this evaluation." |
