There is no doubt that the year ahead will be challenging as the world attempts to pull itself out of recession. Whilst South Africa has been cushioned from the worst of it, the development sector has not been left unaffected by the inevitable contraction of funding streams and support going to poor communities.
It is now more imperative than ever for us to sharpen the focus of our activities and work with renewed urgency towards our goals. And we must continue to support the development of alternative forms of meaningful social investment and a variety of funding streams for the organisations we work with. Ultimately, GreaterGood SA is in the business of building long-term social change and this can only be achieved through a healthy and sustainable civil society.
Despite the exponential growth in our activities and operations over the last four years, our standards of delivery and accountability to investors have remained consistently high. We will strive to maintain and even enhance these levels of service excellence while scaling up our already successful campaigns and enhancing user experience across the board. We will also work to broaden access to our call-to-action campaigns and awareness work by introducing alternative communications and networking mechanisms.
The refinement of the GreaterGood group brand will be completed and formally launched on our fifth birthday in October 2009. This represents an exciting development in the evolution of GreaterGood, from its humble beginnings in the garage of its founder to a well-regarded national organisation with a growing global presence and a respected contribution to international thinking in the fields of both social investment and philanthropy.

We believe that despite the economic downturn, the coming year will be a busy one for the GreaterGood group. With new levels of consciousness emerging across the globe, it is an exciting time to be involved in development. The road ahead will see the expansion of our reach and presence in the social change arena as we seek to create more innovative ways of promoting social investment and addressing the problems of poverty, both here in South Africa and around the globe.
"While there is not yet a single road ahead, the opportunity to consolidate existing uncoordinated efforts and bring together the many emergent models of social finance to fight poverty at this critical moment in the world’s history, is one well worth seizing."
