Everyone's doing it. Are you?
Friday 18th September is Do It Day - the big day each year when South Africans join forces to paint, plant, clean, read, teach and empower their communities. This year we’re calling for a ‘National Strike’ – not to down tools, but to pick them up to fight poverty and underdevelopment around the country. With the backing of celebrities, business, civil society and thousands of ordinary citizens, Do It Day 2009 is going to be the biggest yet. Read more »

We’re going large for Do It Day this year – 20,000 volunteers from across the country – and we need your help signing-up people who want to Do It for South Africa. Recruit friends, family and colleagues for 18th September and become a Do It Day Champion. Email michael@ggsa.co.za for details.
Icons of giving
In May, we launched a rating system on our Giving Network. With over 1, 600 non-profit organisations on the network it can be difficult for givers to look through all the options when trying to find a cause to support. Since actions speak louder than words, we've introduced six rating icons that will show givers how active each organisation is and how engaged they are with givers at a glance.

Survey feedback
Last month, we asked you whether you recycle, and if so, what. It was encouraging to see that 94% of respondents said yes. 94% of respondents recycle paper, 87% cardboard, 77% glass, 74% plastic, 71% cans, 39% tetrapaks, and 48% compost their food waste. We hope that this is also true of those who didn’t take the survey!
