The festive season,
with all its wonderful craziness, is over – and, like us, you’re
probably breathing a sigh of relief. The New Year is upon us and
this month is a time of reflection and resolution.
But January is also a time for celebration – and not just at
the low petrol price. Your generosity made 2008 a sparkling success.
In spite of the economic pressures, you contributed to social development
in South Africa like never before – and we’d like to say a big thank you.
Here’s a look at what you helped us achieve:
- We raised
R 8.1 million
for good causes in South Africa,
R 3.7 million more than in
2007.
- 680
new causes joined our social marketplace
bringing the total number of
GreaterGood SA registered causes to 1,643.
- 4,245
people gave their time, skills and energy through our volunteering campaigns – contributing an estimated
32,784
hours for causes.
- 714,364
second hand or surplus items were distributed to
56 causes.
- 100
investors bought 138,741 shares on the
SA Social Investment Exchange (SASIX)
, amounting to a massive
R6,937,050.
- 357
people broke the mould over the festive season by buying alternative gifts at gifts4good.co.za
and
makechristmasmatter.co.za
, raising a total of R353,180 for evaluated development projects in South Africa.
The year
ahead is going to be exciting, as well as challenging,
as the country gears up for the FIFA World Cup and copes with the uncertainties of world markets.
But with your help, we know we will be able to achieve even more in 2009.
Here’s to looking forward,
