A new dawn for tackling AIDS
HIV and AIDS is the biggest health and development challenge facing South Africa today. With an estimated 5.7 million currently infected, we have the highest number of people living with the disease in the world. But a great deal is being done to tackle the pandemic in South Africa and with the appointment of a new Health Minister, many in the sector are optimistic about turning the tide.

Our giving season wishes
As 2008 draws to a close and the festive season gets into full swing, we wish:
- Our registered causes, corporate clients, partners, board, staff and volunteers a very happy festive season.
- For greater awareness around the issues faced by disabled people on International Disability Day on 3 December.
- All the country's matrics well with their results and their futures.
- For a meaningful Christmas in 2008.
- Everyone makes a wish on Wish-upon-a-Star.

We buy all year round, but at Christmas, we shop extra hard. A recent news article suggested that shopping is the religion of the modern world, with brands the altars of worship and malls the cathedrals. If this is true, then December 25 is the holy day, the feast of all spenders, celebrated with an orgy of credit. Are there ways to celebrate the giving season that don't involve rampant consumerism?
