It's World Environment Day on 5 June and the United Nations Environment Programme is urging us to kick the carbon habit, for good. Although climate change is a massive global challenge, there's a lot that ordinary people can do to reduce their carbon footprint. And living a low-carbon lifestyle can save you money too.

We are all Africans
We have been deeply shocked and saddened by the wave of xenophobic attacks that swept across Gauteng and spread to the Western Cape over the last few weeks. We are all Africans and this beautiful country belongs to everyone who lives in it. As South Africans, what can we do to show our collective support for the thousands of families affected by the violence?

190 books to support mother-tongue literacy
Our Donate-a-Book campaign has raised an impressive R15,200 for mother-tongue books so far. This amounts to 190 books for under-resourced pre-schools across South Africa. Although the campaign has made an excellent start, we still have a way to go to be able to give mother-tongue story books to the over 700 children who are set to benefit.

It's official: giving is good for you. A number of recent studies have shown that giving to good causes works on our brain chemistry to make us happier. And since South Africans are a nation of givers - giving roughly R12 billion a year to help others - we must all be a very happy bunch. Right?
