The GreaterCapital research, evaluation and due diligence team were delighted to receive confirmation from NPO client, PROTEC Tongaat, that the monitoring and evaluation system they helped develop has improved learner performance.
Marion Takis, PROTEC Tongaat’s Manager emailed to say: “I don’t know if you remember helping us with an M&E system but I just wanted to share with you how effective it has been in improving our learners’ performance.”
PROTEC, a non profit organisation which promotes scientific and technological careers that specialise in maths, science and technology education has had impressive results: “We are thrilled with the matric class of 2011 who achieved a 100% pass rate, with 31 of the 34 learners obtaining a university pass. This is a new record for the [Tongaat] branch and reflects the learners’ dedication, commitment and hard work. Sincere thanks to our dedicated team of tutors who went the extra mile to ensure that the learners were well prepared for their final exams.”
Communicating success
Monitoring and evaluation tools inform project planning, implementation and the communication of success – particularly to funders. It is an element of programme delivery that is often overlooked but it is vital to proving that any social investment is producing measurable results.
Social return on investment
Non-profit project managers are increasingly looking for credible tools to manage risks, identify opportunities to make a difference and raise funding; policy makers want to know how to effectively allocate their limited budgets to achieve the highest social impact; and CSI managers are looking for ways of advocating new development strategies to their Boards.
Greater Capital has undergone accredited training and is the only South African member of the The SROI Network, a UK-based membership organisation that advances the practice of social return on investment worldwide.
