Cape Town bands, Hog Hoggidy Hog and Iridium Project, will deliver the message about the power of volunteering to school learners in a bid to encourage the youth to be social activists in their own communities.
Non-profit networking organisation, GreaterGood SA has challenged individuals across South Africa to take action and volunteer their skills, time and energy to support their communities on Do It Day. GreaterGood SA aims to mobilise ‘Team South Africa’ and recruit a record 20 000 volunteers working on 2 000 projects this year, providing a huge range of options, so that each volunteer can find something that appeals to them.
The day is an opportunity for all South Africans, including school-goers who may be too young to vote but who want to make a difference in their community, to make a positive impact on the people around them. Do It Day could also open the door to new possibilities and offer the opportunity to make new friends and build networks in the community.
Iridium Project, one of the funkiest electronic percussion acts available with hit singles, Stroboscope and Lu's Control, did their bit by volunteering at a surprise performance at Reddam Tokai on Monday, 31st August to share the philosophy that everyone has something to give, and that volunteering time is just as valuable as donating money.
The high-energy Hogs shared the message at Reddam Atlantic, on 7th September, encouraging learners to get involved and be the change they want to see. Learners, who were blissfully unaware of the gigs, were treated to a rather unconventional assembly – one that will surely be remembered for a while to come.
Through this nation-building initiative, GreaterGood SA aims to inspire the youth to become regular volunteers and to forge long-term relationships with worthy organisations in their communities.
